EVS data is available for research from the GESIS Data Archive for the Social Sciences in Cologne through their online download and analysis facility ZACAT.

ZACAT is a social science data portal allowing you to search for, browse, analyse and download social science survey data. Use of ZACAT is free of charge. Analysing, creating tables and downloading data requires registration.


Downloading data

The data of the 4 waves of the European Values Study (1981, 1990, 1999, and 2008) can be downloaded via ZACAT. Please click on the + sign before the European Values Study of your choice in the left frame of the ZACAT website.

Please note that the 2008 European Values Study dataset is a first release: it contains data for 39 of the participating countries. The complete dataset containing all 46 countries of the EVS 2008 wave will be available in Autumn 2010.

Integrated surveys

The three waves of the European Values Study, conducted in 1981, 1990 and 1999 have been integrated in one dataset together with the four waves of the World Values Surveys , carried out in 1981-1984, 1989-1993, 1994-1999 and 1999-2004.
